File Splitter is a tool that will split large file into pieces of any selected size and — naturally — with the same tool you can merge these pieces back into one large file.
One difference between this file splitter and other similar products is that here you can split very large text files (like SQL dumps) selecting the exact split point – which is extremely useful when the split position does matter.
Other difference is the control over the merge (join) process (when you merge many pieces into one file) – along with the auto-merge functionality (which will auto-merge files produced by auto-splitter) you have other join options for specific situation (especially when you want to merge pieces produced by other splitter or if you want better control when merging text files) …
The best example is also the best explanation of why I made this tool: I had a situation with splitting 70MB SQL dump files, because phpMyAdmin doesn’t accept so big files. But in this case we cannot split the long file on random place – we must be sure that the sql commands will not be broken. In addition – the windows standard Notepad isn’t good choice for large files – in the case with 70MB txt file it just crashed. So – I build this File Splitter for my own use, but then decided to publish it (with several useful additions) for everyone interested?

AccuSplit is designed to split large files and computer videos into smaller segments to allow for easy archival to external media like DVD, CD-R or floppy disks. These file segments can then be recombined at a later time into an exact copy of the original file. The application is capable of segmenting and then correctly reconstructing ANY file, even ultra-large Windows Backup files exceeding 150GB.
To insure that the file reconstructed from the file segments exactly matches the original source file AccuSplit incorporates an advanced cryptographic algorithm that computes an MD5 Message Digest for both the original and reconstructed files. An MD5 match between these files indicates with absolute certainty that no data was lost during the file split and reconstruction process. AccuSplit also includes the capability to create RAID-formatted file segments. In this mode the software creates file segments that are embedded with a very powerful RAID-style error correction mechanism which allows it to correct for data errors on damaged media – errors ranging from a single corrupted data byte on a scratched CD to an entirely missing file segment are fully correctable with this option.
AccuSplit also includes a special Video Smart Split mode that can split AVI (including DIVX / XVID / INDEO / DV-AVI), WMV, WMV-HD, DVR-MS, and MPEG-1 format files (including Video-CD) into "independently playable" segments without a lengthy video re-rendering process. Now you can split your large videos into CD-sized (or any other size) segments and play them back directly from the CD – no file reconstruction is required. The software also a includes a Video Preview option that allows the user to manually adjust the location of the file split points – avoiding splits in the middle of an important scene.
